Why I Talk About Energy as a Coach and Hypnotherapist

(And Why It’s Not “Woo-Woo”)

If you’ve ever wondered why a coach or hypnotherapist would talk about energy, you’re not alone.

The word can feel vague, spiritual, or disconnected from “real” change — especially in a world that values logic, evidence, and results.

So let’s clear something up straight away:

When I talk about energy, I’m not talking about magic.

I’m talking about how humans actually function.

Energy Is Not a Belief — It’s a System

Energy is simply a word for how information moves through the body and mind.

  • Thoughts are electrical signals

  • Emotions are chemical and neurological responses

  • The nervous system runs on electrical impulses

  • The brain communicates through frequency and pattern

This is not spirituality — it’s biology and neuroscience.

When we say someone is:

  • Burned out

  • Drained

  • Overwhelmed

  • Shut down

  • On edge

  • Stuck

What we’re really describing is their internal system being overloaded or dysregulated.

That’s energy.

Coaching Works With Direction

Hypnotherapy Works With the Subconscious

Energy Explains

Why

Change Feels Hard

Traditional coaching focuses on:

  • Goals

  • Accountability

  • Action

  • Mindset

Hypnotherapy works with:

  • The subconscious mind

  • Habit loops

  • Emotional memory

  • Automatic responses

But here’s what both approaches encounter sooner or later:

People know what to do — but can’t seem to do it.

That’s not a motivation problem.

That’s an energetic and nervous system issue.

If someone’s system is:

  • Running on survival mode

  • Holding unresolved stress

  • Conditioned by old emotional or belief patterns

  • Constantly self-protecting

No amount of “positive thinking” will stick.

Energy language simply gives us a map for what’s happening underneath.

When I Say “Energy”, I Mean…

Not crystals or wishful thinking — but:

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Emotional charge stored in the body

  • Unconscious beliefs driving behaviour

  • Where attention and focus are leaking

  • How safe the body feels to change

Hypnotherapy works because it:

  • Bypasses the analytical mind

  • Accesses deeper patterning

  • Helps the system feel safe enough to rewire

That’s energy shifting — measured through behaviour, emotions, and choices.

Why Ignoring Energy Keeps People Stuck

You can have:

  • The best strategy

  • The clearest goals

  • The strongest intentions

But if your internal system is overloaded, guarded, or exhausted — change feels heavy.

This is why people say:

  • “I sabotage myself”

  • “I keep repeating patterns”

  • “I don’t know why I freeze”

  • “I lose motivation”

  • “I overthink everything”

These aren’t flaws.

They’re signals.

Energy language helps us listen to those signals instead of fighting them.

So… Is It Woo-Woo?

Only if we strip it of meaning.

When energy is framed as:

  • Awareness

  • Regulation

  • Alignment

  • Capacity

  • Internal safety

It becomes one of the most practical tools for change.

In fact, many modern therapeutic approaches already work this way — they just use different words:

  • Somatic therapy

  • Polyvagal theory

  • Trauma-informed coaching

  • Neuroscience-based habit change

They’re all talking about energy — without always calling it that.

Why I Choose to Use the Word Anyway

Because it resonates.

People don’t come to coaching or hypnotherapy just to “perform better”.

They come because something feels off.

They want:

  • Relief

  • Clarity

  • Ease

  • Alignment

  • To feel like themselves again

Energy language gives permission to explore that — without judgement.

And when we work at that level, change doesn’t just happen faster…

It lasts.

Final Thought

Talking about energy doesn’t make the work less professional.

It makes it more honest.

Because humans aren’t just logical beings.

We’re emotional, neurological, embodied systems.

And when those systems shift — life shifts with them.
